The Surveyor's Erratum

The commissioned map of Camp Ramblewood is, in the cartographer's professional opinion, complete. Every road, every cabin, every venue. The cartographer thanks the residents for their letters and assures them no further revisions are planned.

Regarding the letters: yes, the lower margin of the map runs out of names before it runs out of places. This is standard practice. Maps simplify. Some omissions are mercies. The steel boxes at the edge of camp, for instance, hold exactly what steel boxes hold, are no part of any game, and deserve no visitors.

One omission is an invitation. Bring back a photograph, since no one believes a surveyor's word alone.

Long before he became the master of a utopian diversion played with translucent beads, he chronicled the splintering of a single, fragile shell.

The bird must violently shatter the egg in order to be born. The shell is the world, and the flight path inevitably leads toward a god of both light and shadow.

Several rats have nested around camp — plush, photogenic, and exactly where the whispers say they are. The Post will pay handsomely (in glory) for photographic proof of a sighting.

Proof is a photo with the rat clearly in frame. Show your sightings at a turn-in shift — or, in the grand tradition of the press, post one for the world to see. Engagement is the lifeblood of journalism.

The Post is no longer affiliated with any school of thought it may once have subscribed to. It simply finds this framing more agentic.
